  • A couple years ago, Ian and I were in Oakland for a commercial and decided to shoot a short on our down day. Bloom is about defying odds and stereotypes. It’s through the cracks, that we can begin to see the light. Embody the grit your roots provided and find your own path to bloom. To my friend, Hassan Galedary. Thank you for your writing, your truth, and sharing a bit about your journey with me. It has been awesome to hear about where you started and how you have grown. • Lewis ‘Poochi’ Van Poetsch is a professional boxer. He has fought 150+ times with a record of 10 wins, 3 draws and 140+ losses. On paper, and in pure numbers, this record looks horrendous and that Poochi is an inadequate fighter but this is not the real story. Poochi is a ‘Journeyman’, or a more honest term might be a ‘professional loser’. In this short portrait ‘Poochi’ explains how he fell into the role, as he prepares for another weekend fight. Shot in Birmingham, UK. • Just downriver from Nelson, British Columbia, professional freerider Kurt Sorge has hand-crafted a compound that dreams are made of. Originally designed to progress his freeride career, Kurt’s backyard has become not only a world-class proving ground for local freeriding hopefuls but also a way to reflect on the simple pleasures in life. After traveling the world for many years and competing at the highest levels, Kurt returns home to B.C. to find peace and solace in the mountains. Really big jumps, a small cabin, and mountains as far as the eye can see are all Kurt really needs for his humble existence. Addicted to the unlimited hang time and vast mountainous terrain, it’s clear that Kurt has found his place in this world. Huge trains on the backyard jumps, solo freeriding deep in the mountains, and a quick dip in the local creek, This is Home. • This short Guggenheim-produced documentary covers the extensive research, dialogue, and complex conservation treatment that was carried out to conserve Eva Hesse’s Expanded Expansion, bringing it out of storage after nearly thirty-five years. Despite material changes, Expanded Expansion still holds tremendous power and is a testament to a pioneering artist who, despite her untimely death in 1970, left a body of work that pushed sculpture beyond Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism, and has deeply influenced the work of younger artists. Curated by Lena Stringari, Deputy Director and Andrew W. Mellon Chief Conservator, with the collaboration of Richard Armstrong, Director, and Esther Chao, Objects Conservator, Eva Hesse: Expanded Expansion is on view through October 17, 2022.
