  • For this, our second installment of Monster Children’s Table Talk series, hosted by Chris Pastras and presented by Richer Poorer, we feature prolific artist Geoff McFetridge. Geoff gave us an all-access pass to his studio, where we riffled through a bunch of his works without washing our hands, leaving thumb print smudges on the corners of the most expensive ones. Sorry, Geoff. Mr McFetridge was also gracious enough to sit down and discuss his rise to fame, the length of his creative process, and his ability to see 284 shades of grey when we can only see 3. Enjoy episode two of Table Talk, directed by Jonny Look.

  • The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts (the RSA) is an enlightenment organisation committed to finding innovative practical solutions to today’s social challenges. Through its ideas, research and 27,000-strong Fellowship it seeks to understand and enhance human capability so we can close the gap between today’s reality and people’s hopes for a better world.    As part of that mission, the RSA public events programme has launched RSA Shorts (http://bit.ly/1JSyb2Z).  This new series provides a snapshot of a big idea, blending voices from the RSA public events programme and the creative talents of illustrators and animators from around the world. It responds to the ever-increasing need for new ideas and inspiration in our busy lives and acts as a shot of ‘mental espresso’ to awaken the curiosity in all of us.   The audio of this RSA short is of Dr Brené Brown who spoke at the RSA on The Power of Vulnerability (http://bit.ly/1LR1Dsh). She talks about the difference between sympathy and empathy and argues that to be truly empathetic you have to be vulnerable by connecting with someone’s pain in yourself.   Animated and directed by Katy Davis (AKA Gobblynne). • In the days of old, deep in the dredges of the “Do the Bartman” VHS, there was a trailer. In partnership with Chicken Tonight, Butterfinger, and CC Lemon, the early 90s execs of Fox and Toho made an animated short. An attempt to appeal to American consumers without having to spend a lot of money. Until a changing of the guard decided the kids needed more Poochie and it was lost…until today. – Bartkira is an animated parody mash-up of The Simpsons and Akira. Based on an idea by Ryan Humphrey articulated through comics, the concept was expanded with the Bartkira project, a comic collaboration of Simpsons fans, curated by James Harvey. In association with the comic, Moon Animate Make-Up producer Kaitlin Sullivan pitched the idea of an animated trailer to match and with the work of over fifty artists, produced the Bartkira animated trailer. It is in no way officially associated with Fox Animation, Toho, or any other legal properties that own the rights to The Simpsons and Akira. We are a bunch of fans who did this for free and are profiting in no way off of this other than having a larf. • An animation telling my story of the London bombings. Direction, Design and Animation: Georgina Ferguson and Eduarda Lima . Sound and Music: Philippe Lenzini. On July 7th 2005 I was one of the Londoners involved in the King’s Cross bombings. That morning I found myself on the carriage behind the one that was bombed, in which 26 people lost their lives. I have never publicly spoken about what happened that day. Nor do a lot of my friends know that I was even involved. A year ago I realised that it was going to be the 10 year anniversary this July and decided that this would be a good time to share my experience. I am no wordsmith so I thought it might be best to use animation to communicate my story; as a motion graphic designer this felt most appropriate to me. This is my story of Seven Seven, and how a stranger’s kindness helped me get out and start to move on. I never asked my guardian angel’s name, something I regret as I’ve never been able to really thank him. This animation is my way of giving them thanks – I really hope it can reach him. For me, this film is about more than just personal catharsis and sharing an experience. Its about an act of remembrance, tribute and gratitude… For more info please go to: http://bit.ly/1LPdk2N http://bit.ly/1Ti3Wqv http://bit.ly/1LPdlUk Twitter: @FergusonGeorgie This film was funded by the Arts Council England and through crowd funding on Kickstarter. http://bit.ly/1Ti3Wqw http://kck.st/1Ti3Wqx

  • Part of The Connected Series by Samsung. To view more of The Connected Series visit: connected-series.tumblr.com We all have different starting points in life. Some of us come into the world swinging from the vines while others are born into quicksand. Samsung invited me to look back on my past that I have been so good at hiding all these years to show that even against all odds you can make your dreams come true. To every person out there with huge dreams and huge obstacles, whether you are 12-years-old or 65, black, white, rich, poor, we are all fighting something and I hope this film can inspire even just one person to push through the thick fog and persevere. You are SO capable and you should just force it to happen no matter what the weight is on your shoulders and how hopeless it seems!
