When I met Franco Pascali, I was struck by how much I felt like I was meeting and hanging out with a young street skater. However, instead of witnessing skate tricks he destroyed me by his usage of cards. Much like the world of skateboarding that I was raised in, magic and cardistry are intensely personal and individually orientated in terms of the endless practice that is required to master them. Tricks are performed with decks and each person embodies a style that is distinctly their own. That style is reflective of the influences they devoured when they were coming up and their intrinsic sensibility that they develop as they mature. As I spent time with Franco I immediately wanted to point my camera at him to capture the way he dressed, the way he talked, the breathtaking way he moved cards and the feeling I had in encountering such raw talent. This is our first film. Franco Pascali is 19 years-old and lives in Los Angeles. What is the legend of the enchanted Pedro’s Bay? A secret whispered from one to the next. Somewhere on an island far, far away is a parallel life on a forgotten beach—with emerald waves and mushroom forests. Where toucans talk and trees grow full of fruit. Where wine trickles off rocks and mermaid lagoons meet black jungles. The sun shines here everyday. What is the power behind this strange book? Where is Pedro’s Bay? Can this magical Earth potion possibly exist? Join one brave traveler as he sets out on an extraordinary journey to discover the holy grail of paradise.

The Isle of Man TT is, without doubt, the most dangerous race on the planet. In a similar vein to the World’s Fastest Indian at Bonneville in the 1960s, in 1994 New Zealand inventor John Britten and his team brought their futuristic racing motorcycle to this infamous race. John Britten turned motorcycle design on its head in the early 1990s with the Britten V1000; a hand-built motorcycle designed and constructed by a small group of friends in John’s backyard shed in Christchurch. The motorcycle incorporated technologies seldom seen before: extensive use of carbon fibre, the radiator located under the seat, double wishbone front suspension, frameless chassis and engine data logging. At the height of their endeavours the Britten team took three V1000 racers to the 1994 Isle of Man TT races. There they were confronted by the dark side of the world’s most famous and dangerous race track.  

In a time where post-truth news divides and conservative politics fails to lure in young voters, a extraordinary vote for world peace has dramatic consequences. Epic Fail is an avant-garde essay that questions how we perceive truth, information and politics, seen through the dual lenses of our real and virtual identities. Moved by the political events that shook 2016, the film is inspired by Jean Paul Sartre’s “Nausea”; or how we can develop visual embodiments of our emotions as a catharsis on how to deal with reality.
