2022, 36’18 A haunting story of the FBI’s dark hand in American life. In 2015, Khalil Abu-Rayyan was just a young Muslim man in Detroit, Michigan: to get by, he delivered food for his family’s pizzeria. Depressed and lonely, Khalil found solace in smoking weed and looking at extremist material online. Then two young women started messaging him, and he fell in love. “June” explores the idea that to be fully present, you must let go, get lost, and surrender first. It celebrates our vulnerability, praises the beauty of fleeting moments, nostalgia, and finding inner peace and acceptance despite our failures, fears, burn-outs, and sorrows. Delicate, almost improvised piano song, together with visuals, illustrate the undefined longing for both the unknown journeys and familiar places we would like to find ourselves in.

Shot in Northern Iraq, this film explores the unbreakable brotherhood that developed between two Yezidi boys while they were kept as child soldiers under ISIS. Now as incredibly brave young men, they come together to discuss all that was unspeakable at the time, and try to figure out what the future holds for them in a country that refuses to acknowledge their plight.
